Wanted to know if anyone else attended, this year's Recon Challenge. Must say pretty good stuff. Good turnout too, although the Citadel, West Point, and VMI did not put up as much competition as I would like to have seen (Anapolis didn't even show). Anyways, Fire Team Alpha of SEAL Platoon won it all. It was awesome thought the Combat Endurance Course was way too easy. Texas A&M SEALs came in 3rd. Think they would have done better but weren't used to the snow.

Not to be a Negative Nancy lol but every West Point, VMI, and NMMI cadet i've met or heard of from friends has been a prick with some form of disillusioned sense of self entitlement because they go to a military academy. Then a friend of mine broke his West Point LT's door handle on the HMMWV so he'd stop jumping out and charging into houses by himself haha.
But i've never heard of this competition before... is it just for the Academy's? If not we might be able to field a pretty good team next year. Some of those guys look like too big of meat heads to be very good at endurance stuff. _________________ There are three types of people in America: Sheep (normal citizens), Sheepdogs(police/military), and Wolves(evil people)
After the attacks on September 11, 2001, most of the sheep, that is, most citizens in America said, "Thank God I wasn't on one of those planes." The sheepdogs, the warriors, said, "Dear God, I wish I could have been on one of those planes. Maybe I could have made a difference."

Recon Challenge is an event hosted by the Marine Corps. Pretty much anyone who wants to put together a Team of 4 guys and 1 alternate if wanted can pay the fee and attend. I know of several held throughout the country but this is the one I attended. It consist of a 8 mile run with 15 lb. Packs, then a Marine Corps PFT with standards raised to that of a 4 man team, 3 mile run in Boots and Utes, 1000 meter swim, Combat Endurance Course (stretcher carries, low crawls, weapon assembly, buddy carries, etc...) and finishes out with a 15 mile hike with 60 lb. packs.
RCAS - You would be surprised. The team that won the competition beat out the second place team by 20 minutes. The second place team consisted of 2 Green Berets, 1 Force Recon Marine, and 1 Marine. The Top 10 Teams consisted of some very fit individuals. The rest of the 37 teams were ok but did not have skills or endurance in certain areas. _________________ "Those who wish to reap the blessings of liberty must undergoe the fatigues of supporting it." |

Same here. No offense to any present or prior or future cadet.
Recon Challenge seem like a great thing to do, kinda like a more buff military based version of triathlons. Shoot I would do it just for the personal challenge plus meet competitor from all over and other branches of the armed forces. So where is the say event held at? |

This one was held in Vermont. I know there are some held in Boston, Texas, Quantico and I think up in Washington State. And as for being like a triathalon, not quite. Far more running and swimming involved. Only good thing is that you don't have to run with a pack. Although in January I ran the OC Marathon with one of my Force Recon buddy's and he ran with a 20 lb pack. Sad to say I only beat him by 10 minutes. _________________ "Those who wish to reap the blessings of liberty must undergoe the fatigues of supporting it." |

you should try the bataan death march... 26.2 miles with 35lb min rucks and LBV. It says march but its a run if you want to be one of the top teams.
And i don't know from the pictures who won this thing but for instance the guys with the white T's with terry schivo and stuff on it look like they have too much muscle bulk to do heavy endurance stuff but ya never know.
Where do you get info on the Recon Challenges? _________________ There are three types of people in America: Sheep (normal citizens), Sheepdogs(police/military), and Wolves(evil people)

Haha. Its funny you say that RCAS. The guys in the white T's are the guys that won it. They are no most fit people I have ever met in my entire life. They're my Instructors for SEAL platoon. They have all run ultra marathons (50 miles) and are training for the Iron Man. Some of them, especially my LT, look like they should be body builders but they are far from it. I would put my life in their hands at any moment. These guys are incredible. I have also done the Bataan Marathon. It was awesome to see the guys out there. At the Marine Corps Marathon a bunch of guys did it in full combat gear. That was impressive. As for info, I'd say it's most likely through the Marine Corps. They had a bunch of Marine Recruiters taking pictures and handing out stuff. Sad to say but in California and on the west coast in general not too much in regards to Military Acadamies and what not. Seems as though the bulk of these competitions are held on the east coast. _________________ "Those who wish to reap the blessings of liberty must undergoe the fatigues of supporting it." |

Ya. They're pretty young guys. The majority of them are young. Though the guys that run our hell week, weapons training, and grappling are from the Vietnam era. One of them was in BUD/S Class 24 and another was BUD/S Class 68. _________________ "Those who wish to reap the blessings of liberty must undergoe the fatigues of supporting it." |
