had anyone else had this problem with their xbox 360?

btw this isn't my xbox, I have a elite. I just didnt have time to make a video of mine.

thats the sound my 360 is making, the night before it happened : it was fine but after I brought home vegas 2, it turned my xbox from reading disc to unreadable disc.

is there anything I can do? I gave Microsoft a call and I have to send it in, but I really dont want to go that way unless is necessary.

Hmm... I have the same problem. Some disks will read while others do not. I was thinking that is was a malfunction with the update they released because it did not happen until after i updated. *mutters incoherently and bangs 360 with a rubber chicken*

I posted this on another online forums, his reply his this

" The problem is most likely a steel washer that hold the game in place when the tray is inside. Over time, heat or just the brand of adhesive, wears down. Since that washer isn't held down, it shoots up to the top of your drive and magnetizes itself with the spinner. Since that washer is not there to hold the disc in place, the laser won't read it. This causes the 360 to make loud noises and the "unplayable game disc" error.

You would have to take apart your 360 and Disc Drive to fix that problem. Since it is a general problem, the waranty is only one year. If your system is still under a year old, it's better to send it to them and wait the "anywhere from 3 days - 2 months"

If you want to go at it yourself, take apart the 360 and drive. You should find the small steel washer attached to the top of the case of the drive. Super glue that sucker down into the spindle thing and you're good to go."

i get that sometimes but if i pop the disk out and put it back in everything is all gravy until it happens again which could be anywhere from 1 hour to 2 weeks. Its odd and i can't duplicate it with any consistency... happens with various games at various points in it

in about 1-3 onths you'll get 3 rings of death while playing a game

it will be cool for about 5 runs then literally scream at you

Good, All i got to was the lobby and then the 360 started making the noise.

Since then, I haven't been able to read any disc at all.

I didn't even get to the menu at all.

i say send it in if you still have the warranty...

but i think theirs a guy on craigs list that fixes the RROD and other 360 problems for as low as like 30$...

I gave Microsoft a call and they are going to send me a box to ship my xbow with it.

I did buy the extended warranty with it, so once the factory warranty goes out. I still have it as my back up.

If this happens again, I can just go in and swap it out for a new one.

Back on Vegas 2, I still haven't been able to play at all. It just sitting there. and now I have to wait for the box to come and then wait 2 weeks for it.

Gay!!!!!!

Wraith, I gave them a call again today and the box has been shipped. Hoepfully I can get it this week and ship it out before the weekend.

Then is 2- 3 weeks of waiting, however I heard the quickest is about a week and a half. Knock on wood that it they can repair it quickly.

i'd rather not waste my money on an expensive blu ray player with under 1mb of l2 CACHE and the same ungodly slow ass load time as it's predecesors

might change my mind if they got some decent titels on there, but with as slow a load time (and it's 512mb system ram) as it has, i don't think so

despite it's issues i'll stick wit ha 360 or Wii for a console, not a PS3. Sure it's got less technical "issues" but its' slower than piss, the psp link-in technology is still in development and their "live" service is laggy and unreliable at best.

If you get an STI get a new one. The used ones have been having issues with people not knowing how to treat a car with a turbo right. Instead of letting it idle for a few after driving just turn them off. A subi mechanic I talked to said that they are having sever issuess now aorun 100k plus miles. He reconomned an 2.5 or a new STI. I say get ps3, in a few months any how no one will be able to afford gas Laughing
